Now touring in it's 9th year, the Sensational 60's Experience are one of only a handful of promoters who bring a line up of singing acts from the 1960's on tour around the UK. Northerners Billy McGregor and Alan Wearmouth set up Stageright Promotions back in 2008 with just 3 acts - Tremeloes, Merseybeats and the Dreamers. Ten years later, they have increased the roster and pack in an incredible 58 gigs.
We caught up with their show in Bournemouth's Pavilion Theatre where over a thousand fans descended on what was a trip down memory lane for many. First up were the Fourmost and Swinging Blue Jeans bringing that familiar Merseybeat sound in the first set.
After the interval, New Amen Corner surprised many by their slick and tight harmonies from such young musicians with Glen Leon's cover of The Walker Brothers' The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine' bringing the biggest applause of the evening (so far). They also supported both Chris Farlowe and Mike Pender through their solo sets later in the evening. Original drummer Barry (The Bean) Whitwam led Herman's Hermits through another singalong set before Searchers lead singer Mike Pender finished off a fantastic evening.
What is a nice touch is the fact that Billy & Alan line up all the acts to meet the fans after the show in the auditorium where autographs, selfies and the odd handshake brings the warm appreciative crowd back for more.
Oh yes that signed guitar - ten tickets out for me but someone had a unique item of 60's nostalgia that will no doubt take pride pf place on any wall.
The 2018/9 Sensation 60's Experience tour is coming to a venue near you. (dates and venues on the website).
